Denton's heartwarming preschool program since 1970

Since 1970, Denton Christian Preschool or DCP has served many three and four-year-old children in the Denton community. DCP is a United Way agency, whose mission is to prepare at-risk children for success in school and life. DCP prides itself on being Denton’s heartwarming success story as “the school that love built”, a slogan tracing back to its origins to when it was founded by a group of 17 different churches in Denton and individuals who believed the first few years of a child’s life are the most crucial years for development.

Our early education program consists of five components: developmentally appropriate learning activities in a classroom setting; transportation to and from school; daily nutritious meals and snacks; medical, dental, speech, and other diagnostic screenings and referrals; and monthly parent/teacher meetings.

Early Education Program

Denton Christian Preschool offers developmentally age-appropriate learning activities that educate and challenge our children. Our new theme-based curriculum keeps our students engaged with new topics incorporated each week. Our curriculum includes:

- phonics

- sight words

- interactive technological learning tools.

- introduces vocabulary & literacy skills

- bilingual program for ESL students

- teaching socialization

- behavioral skills to prepare them for public school

- core skills that’ll help them be at or above grade level when they begin kindergarten.

Our program also includes nap time, art and music, recess, and story time. Our DCP teachers and staff speak Spanish too. This allows us to provide our services in their first language to both the parents and students!

We have three instructional programs: T & Th (for three-year-olds), MWF, and all week. Class time is from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. and our office hours are from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. Our tuition cost is based on an income sliding scale and we work one-on-one with families if need be.

Transportation

Denton Christian Preschool is the only preschool program in Denton that provides transportation at no additional cost to and from school (and field trips) for those living within the loop 288 area. Our buses have booster seats and seat belts. Buses run from 8 a.m. - 9 a.m. and in the afternoon from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Meals

We provide three meals a day for our children: breakfast, hot lunch, and an afternoon snack. Food allergies and dietary needs are accommodated accordingly. We do not serve our children any frozen foods. Instead, we make meals from scratch every morning to ensure our children are guaranteed hot, nutritious, homemade meals.

Medical Screenings and Diagnostics

Denton Christian Preschool partners up with organizations, nonprofits, and other Denton community partners to offer our children and their families free or inexpensive services such as health care, food and nutrition, resources for housing assistance, budgeting, job preparation, and legal counseling. We collaborate with Denton ISD Special Ed services, TWU & UNT Family counseling services, UNT Hearing and Vision and TWU Hearing, Speech and Language Department and TWU’s Dental Hygiene Clinic for health screenings such as learning deficit, vision, hearing, dental & physical health assessments. The referral sheet screenings are provided as individualized plans for the teachers and parents to continue to work with the student.

Parent Involvement

Denton Christian Preschool supports parental involvement as a crucial factor in a child’s educational growth. We have parent/teacher conferences each semester and host monthly parent nights in which parents can speak with the teachers and guest speakers from the community. Holiday luncheons, birthday celebrations, and snack opportunities are other ways for parents to participate in.
